What is a Conservatory?

Conservatories bring plants from across the world together in one place.
They're like plant zoos, providing an environment for visitors to not only learn about plants, but enjoy them in a relaxing and beautiful environment at the same time.

Unlike greenhouses, conservatories are designed with a keen eye for aesthetics, often featuring serene water features, atria and other features edsigned to make them more enjoyable to visit, and suitable for a variety of events.

The Plant Biology Conservatory and Teaching Greenhouse offers a globe-spanning variety of plants to the public: a vast collection of plants including the mystifying & fleeting corpse flower, tropical fruit-bearing trees like and even a pair of sprawling welwitschia plants—rare living fossils found only in the Namib desert in the wild.

We also provide limited seating for individual or small-group study sessions, and ocasionally host events including teas, tours and wellness events!
